How We Are Supporting Patients at South Wigston Health Centre

As valued members of our patient community, we are writing to provide you with an important update on South Wigston Health Centre (SWHC), and how we are making every effort to ensure our services are helping you best manage your health and wellbeing.

Having recently taken over as the new Partners of this practice, we recognise that SWHC has had a challenging time delivering the services asked of it by our local population.   We are committed to making improvements at pace, supporting you, your health and wellbeing.

Since July 2022, we have developed and implemented an improvement programme designed to tackle areas of underperformance that we have proactively identified, along with the experiences you have shared with us.

As part of this comprehensive improvement programme, we have:

  • Strengthened our team, through the appointment of five new colleagues, including Dr Saurabh Obeja who is an experienced Clinical Lead GP and began working with us in July 2022.
  • Provided stability by maintaining appointments levels, and extended patients’ access to our teams through evening and Saturday appointments.
  • Supported our most clinically vulnerable patients, through health checks and care planning.

Whilst we are happy to share these positive early steps, we recognise that this a process which requires a long-term commitment of our time, resources and expertise to make the improvements SWHC needs and you deserve in order to benefit from a high-performing health centre.

Recognising the health centre’s need for long-term stability and trusted leadership, we are delighted to announce the appointment of Sally Groves as the new permanent Practice Manager who took up her post from 3rd January.

Taruna joins SWHC with a strong track record, underlined by more than seven years’ experience in General Practice, bringing a passion and deep-rooted commitment to working in partnership with patients and practitioners to provide a high quality, caring and personal health care service.

SWHC’s patients will benefit from her extensive knowledge of local health care services, and her experience of leading and managing a dedicated teams that put patients’ wellbeing front and centre of what they do.
